Forrest Harrill “Smoky” Burgess was a professional baseball player, coach, and scout. Burgess played for the Pittsburg, Pirates in the 1950's. His unique combination of batting left-handed and throwing right-handed helped him break into Major League Baseball in 1949. Big Statues was honored to work with the people of Forest City to erect a sculpture that reflects this unique and influential player. The 5 foot 8 bronze sculpture can be found located in the McNair Stadium in Ashville, North Carolina, in honor of Forrest Burgess.
