On March 10, 2018, a bronze statue memorial of six veteran women were installed and unveiled at the Veteran's Memorial Park in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The sculptor of the bronze statues, Matt Glenn of Big Statues in Provo, Utah, was able to attend the unveil ceremony.
Matt says that, "It was truly an honor to be selected as the sculptor for this project, and I was amazed by the local and national support during the unveil of the sculpture. The women of our country that fight for our freedom need to be remembered, and I am grateful that I was able to be a small part of this project."
The unveil ceremony was centered on the women that these statues memorialize. All of these women, one from each branch of the military, exemplify the honor, strength, and power that all women veterans possess. The ceremony was absolutely breathtaking, featuring people representing the United Military Women of the Southwest (UNWSW), as well as the Mayor of Las Cruces, and representatives from the different military branches.
The statues and the
that they stand on can be visited as of now at the Veteran's Memorial Park in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
