Michael Balke, new president and CEO of the Mercedes-Benz Vans manufacturing plant in Palmetto Commerce Park, was the keynote speaker during this week’s North Charleston Business Expo at the Auto Manufacturing Luncheon. Mercedes-Benz Vans is a subsidiary of Daimler AG. During the past 23 years, Balke has held a variety of positions within Daimler. He started his career working for the Mercedes-Benz Cars Development Dept. Since then he engaged in specialist and managerial functions in production and production planning. During his visit, he was presented with a bronze pineapple that was awarded to him as a VIP speakers gift, which was created by Big Statues LLC. It was awarded to him in behalf of Charleston City who is grateful and excited for the future that their city has because of Mercedes-Benz Vans.
