The statue was of A.O. Smoot a prominent figure of Provo City. A.O. Smoot served as mayor of Provo, and was the head of the board of trustees for Brigham Young Academy in 1881. A.O. Smoot made major contributions to BYU, which allowed it to continue functioning, and is now known as Brigham Young University, a very popular and highly rated 4 year university for college students.Matt Glenn, head sculptor for Big Statues, is a big fan of BYU, so this statue was a fun and exciting project to be a part of. “It was exciting to create something in connection to one of my greatest passions. It is fun to share my talents in a unique way.”This was a great tribute to A.O. Smoot. Most of his family members and friends through generations were in attendance at this memorable event. Big Statues was honored to be a part of such an amazing and rewarding project.
