The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum announces new campaign including statues of ten automotive pioneers.

Big Statues, in collaboration with ACD Museum, is proud to announce the creation of ten life-size bronze statues of influential individuals in the automotive industry.

The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum is located in the northeast corner of Indiana and displays over 120 classic, antique, vintage, and special interest cars, as well as other automotive related exhibits.  It is in the original 1930s international headquarters of the legendary Auburn Automobile Company and has been designated a National Historic Landmark.

The museum’s mission is to preserve, interpret, and create passion for Auburn, Cord and Duesenberg automobiles and their heritage of innovation, influence, design and competition while exceeding the highest museum standards.

The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum publicly launched a capital campaign, The Road Ahead, late in 2012.  Its vision is that its National Historic Landmark building and growing world renowned automobile collection will be here hundreds of years from now – much like the museums in Europe.

With that vision in place, the museum approved up to ten full size bronze statues of automotive pioneers involved with Auburn Automobile Company and Duesenberg, Inc.  With the help of museum executive director, Laura Brinkman, the museum has commissioned Big Statues with Matt Glenn to be the lead sculptor in creating these life-size bronzes.

The statues will be a major educational and artistic component of the museum’s new 1.5-acre outdoor education & exhibit plaza. Adding to the excitement of the plaza itself, the educational bronzes, distributed throughout the plaza, will offer the first-ever opportunity for permanent donor recognition, destined to be here for hundreds of years at this significant and historic site.

The front side of each granite base will be engraved with information about each individual bronze – who they were, their work with the Company and their contribution to our nation’s automotive history.  This project will introduce the automotive personalities to everyone.  Seeing the bronzes will educate and inspire with the knowledge of just how young these people were (20s and 30s) when, through their collective genius, they made automotive history that includes innovations that are still revered to this day.

Big Statues and the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum have decided to start the project with sculpting Errett Lobban Cord himself.  The two will collaborate on the design and use many images to ensure Mr. Cord’s exact likeness is portrayed.
